The day job, for now....? If you've come across my Author Bio you will know that I now work with an Assistance Dogs charity as coordinator for social therapy dogs, that provide emotional support for people in various stressful situations, such as: undergoing cancer or other serious medical treatment in hospitals and rehabilitation centres;
lonely and isolated people in care homes; and in schools, to encourage introverted and under-confident children to read (out loud).
It’s been a hectic month in my job. Aside from the projects we’ve already got up and running, I am also super busy with the acquisition of more hospitals, care homes and primary schools. And when I get to go to some of these places to show them what we do, I always have my
trusted grey poodle with me. He is absutely fabulous, and basically sells the work I can do for me. |
And if all my current and new projects weren’t enough, me and my colleague also taught a course for new volunteers who will be handling our dogs in those newly acquired projects. It was our first time teaching the course since we started this job in May, so it was mega nervewracking! But I am confident to say that our volunteers now have a good basis to work from. And whatever extras they need to succeed in the project(s) we assign to them, me or my colleague
will be there to guide them through it! I’m very excited for this part, because I get to work with new people and new dogs! It’s always fun to figure out where which team of volunteer+dog would work best. And to then see them shine in a new project is just amazing to see. |
