The good weather is continuing here, although it does mean that everything is very dry already. My dogs are still loving it, too. There's another beauty to meet here, and a bunch of new fantasy authors to discover.

My writing life

Ooooh dear, did I speak too soon? Yes, I'm working through the notes from my last beta reader. But I'm considering asking for more feedback from another superfan, who has offered their services. So, maybe not June, and I am travelling in July - which means I could be looking at an August release. Hmm, something will have to change for book 4. I just have to figure out what that would be, to enable me to have more time for writing. I really don't want to keep you waiting so long between books.

The day job, for now....?

If you've come across my Author Bio you will know that I train guide dogs for the blind. This month I’m introducing you to another star in my training squad.

This month I’d like to introduce you to a very special dog. He’s lovely and calm, loves his cuddles, but is a real fan of a little rope toy. But that’s not what makes him special. What makes this boy special is that he’s been chosen for a special client already in the first month of his training!

All our guide dogs walk on the left hand side of their clients as a rule. But very occasionally, we have a client who can’t hold a dog harness with their left hand, for example because they have a bad tremor in their hand or arm. In the case of these clients, we look at dogs who’ve just come to the kennels to see who has the walking speed, character and personality that could match. And this pretty, white lab has been chosen as a match for a client who needs their dog on the right side.

Since this beauty is not used to anything else, he’s fine with walking on my right side. For me, however, this feels so weird. This is the first time for me, training a dog in harness on the right, and it really took some getting used to. Though, I really do like that I’ve got this new challenge four years into this job!
