Did you know that February is officially the last month of winter? Hooray!! Roll on longer days and warmer weather, I say ☺️ To keep you going until then, I have news about one of my latest dogs in training, my writing, and new authors to discover.

The day job, for now....?

If you've come across my Author Bio you will know that I train guide dogs for the blind. This month I’d like to introduce you to a new dog that has started his training to become a guide dog.  

This golden beauty is an incredibly quick learner and just… also very quick. In the beginning of his training I really needed to slow him down a little otherwise he just sped on past all the things he needs to be alert for when doing the work. Stopping at curbs, for example, wasn’t something he understood in the beginning. Very quickly now he does know that he needs to stop here, otherwise I trip. And when I say that he knows that he needs to stop, I mean that he comes to an abrupt, grinding halt so fast… that unless I find a client who can react instantly within a millisecond, they will still trip and fall. 

So… this speedy sir is now learning to slooow down at least slightly before stopping so that his future client gets a bit of a warning before suddenly standing still. And that is something that he is still learning to this day. Especially because he’d rather speed through life instead of going very slowly. But that’s okay, he’ll get there, I’m sure. He’s still got until June to go before I have to deliver him to a client. That’s plenty of time to teach him when to be more careful and take it down a notch, but also in what situations he really can use his speed. Because luckily, those situations exist as well! And I’m going to make sure I find a client who has more of those, just to make the match even more perfect!
