This week I won’t be telling you about one of my dogs. Instead I just wanted to show you three of our newest guide dog recruits!
Every two weeks, four to six new youngsters come to our kennels, ready for the next step in their lives. They’ve just spent 14-16 months with a foster family and now the moment has arrived to say goodbye. It’s a tough day for our foster volunteers.
Especially those who’ve raised a dog for us for the first time. The seasoned volunteers are a bit more used to the farewell, but even for them it can be difficult to say goodbye.
Luckily, they get updates from their dog’s carers and trainers for all the time they are with us. We tell them how their dog is faring in the kennel and how well they’re doing in training.
I love writing and sending updates for my dogs’ foster families. Before I got this job, I was a volunteer like them, and I loved reading about how my good boy was doing. For me it made it easier, because I knew he was where he was supposed to be. And he was doing what he was meant to do. The best news was when he got
matched with his client, and I learnt a little something about him as well.
It should come as no surprise to you that my updates are elaborate and colourful… I
like writing… who knew? I am actually known for it now at my work. But who can blame me? We would be nowhere without these volunteers, and they deserve to know what’s going on with this little creature they’ve spent over a year taking care of!
So, here are a few of our new recruits. Sadly, I can’t tell you their names because two of them are sponsered… What names spring to mind when you see these sweet faces?
