It's been a frustrating time for my writing since my last newsletter, very "February" - dull and damp (oh so damp). Thankfully, there are always new dogs to meet and new authors to discover.

My writing life

My writing woes have continued into February. I'm not happy with the ending of the short story I've been working on, and am having to re-think that. Then, there's so  much going on in book 3 that I have to force myself to keep focussed and not think about how big it will be (A Crown Denied was already 100 pages longer than From Fury Reborn, and book 3 is going to be even longer...). Splitting the book up really isn't an option, though.

On the plus side, I have been enjoying writing the chapters with my new favourite character, Piper. She's named after my favourite character in one of the tv series that I was glued to as a teenager - Charmed. Do you know it? My other favourite character of my all-time favourite tv series passed away recently - it's Chandler from Friends. Now you know where the inspiration for all that banter between the Asters comes from... But I feel it's too distinctive a name to use in my books. So he and all his amazing one-liners will just have to live on in my memory.

The day job, for now....?

If you've come across my Author Bio you will know that I train guide dogs for the blind.

Something that we learn as guide dog trainers is that a dog can be absolutely brilliant at the work, but everything is made or broken with the match. If the match isn't great, a good guide dog won't do good work. When the match is great, a good guide dog can rise even higher than thought possible and do brilliant work. It is an amazing thing to see. So, now it's up to me to make that happen... It's exciting, and I can't wait to get started.
