Coming (very) soon, A Crown Denied

Yes, book 2 in the Asters Original Series is on track for a November 20 publication. My beta readers have been hard at it for the last weeks, spotting inconsistencies and improving flow. Now there's just the final edits and checks and then I can press the button to kick-off the steps in the publishing sequence. The day job, for now....?

If you've come across my Author Bio you will know that I train guide dogs for the blind.

Since a few weeks I’ve been training a new cutie named Arkos. He’s a cross between a labrador and a golden retriever and he is smart as hell. It took him no time at all to master the basics of guide work. I didn’t think he’d be able to learn so fast, because he is experiencing a bit of stress due to the harness. He is not a fan of it, and his body turns a bit stiff when he’s wearing it. I’m very glad that this is improving, because Arkos has the talent and the brains to become an excellent guide dog. But, of course, if he continues to struggle with the harness, we won’t force him to be one. If that is the case—which doesn’t seem likely because of his improvements—we are lucky enough to have other careers within our organisation. For example, we also train assistance dogs for people in a wheelchair or who need help managing their PTSD.

For the time being, I will be helping Arkos as best I can get even more relaxed wearing the harness. He doesn’t actually avoid it; every time I bring it out, his tail starts wagging because he really likes doing the guide work. He just doesn’t like the way it feels on his back. But I am very hopeful that this will continue to improve, and that one day the harness won’t be an issue for him!

Aside from this, I love walking around off-leash with this good boy. He’s very calm and wanders by my side constantly. Except when it’s windy: that’s when he loves to run around in circles. The way his ears flap around makes me laugh all the time.
