Hi and welcome to my February newsletter. This month, as well as the
latest on A Crown Denied, book 2 in the Asters Original Series, you're also the first to see the next part of the cover reveal - Sky's magical Mark. Then I have news about my current dogs in training, followed by links to free samples of fantasy reads to help you discover new authors. And finally, a limited time offer of the ebook of A World To Lose. I hope you enjoy reading this email. Thank you for being part of my publishing experience ❤️ Best wishes Frances Progress report: A Crown Denied My editor is working her way through the first 31 draft chapters of A Crown Denied - I feel for her, it was such a brain dump🤪 I had written some of the remaining chapters a long time ago, when I thought they would be in book 3;
fortunately the basics are still pretty good. I have changed some of the names, though. Seeing them now, I have to laugh. Below, with their character art, are the names I originally had for Matu, Nathan and Sophie - I can't imagine these three now with any other name😊 |
In keeping with the theme of the Original Series, the cover image will include the magical Mark of the Aster whose voice is the most prominent. For A Crown
Denied, that voice is Sky's, so the image is a wing depicting the magic of Speed and Flight - I love it! |
| A Crown Denied Their greatest enemy always one step ahead. The shattering reveal - a traitor in their midst. Can the spy be unmasked before critical secrets
are exposed and lives are lost? Available for pre-order on Amazon |
The day job, for now....? If you've come across my Author Bio you will know that I train guide dogs for the blind. For this month I wanted to share a very special training session that I do occasionally with my dogs. They have to be quite a bit along in their training for this session to really be useful for them, because it is next-level stuff. So, what I do is I start in the town closest to our training centre and take a bus all the
way to the airport. This is a location that we usually go to in pairs, so one of my colleagues joined me with one of her dogs in training. |
| This is such a different location for our dogs, with a whole different bunch of obstacles that they’ve never seen before. For example, the queue lanes at this airport are simple bands at waist height but nothing else. It’s really easy for our dogs to walk underneath them, unaware that they will be a physical barrier to their sight-impaired owner. By the end of their training they have to know that they can’t do this. It’s really fun zigzagging
through these barriers and asking the dogs to find openings and doors and the check-in counters. |
The last time I came here was with a little, black labrador called Dena. What was really interesting was that she found following the lane and crossing in front of me really easy, but turning a sharp left more difficult. It was something I had already
been working on with her, but it was good to know that when the situation was different and the training a little more difficult, that this point of improvement showed itself a little more again. It was good to know, and lucky for the two of us, she’s still got plenty of time to get better at it in easier surroundings. I will return to the airport with Dena in a few weeks to see how much she’s improved! | |
